Upcoming PD and Student-Centered Workshops

The interactive and informative professional development workshops explore bullying and the issues surrounding bullying in the classroom, the school environment, and the community.  The PD workshops also serve to provide the tools necessary to help eradicate bullying in our schools, providing tangible and effective intervention and implementation strategies for teachers and support staff as found in our resource book, Bullying Awareness: Reclaiming Our Schools.  We also have workshops that are geared for working with the students, bullies, targets, and “bully-victims”, at all division levels.

Bullying Awareness: Reclaiming Our Schools focuses on the bullying as an social health issue and seeks to address its ramification on mental health and healthy development through engagement into healthy, active lifestyles through sport, conflict management, stress reduction, and skills building, as well as through advocacy and awareness.

After participation in our professional development workshops, educators and para-professionals will be able to:

- Identify and address aggressive and violent behaviours in students
- recognize bullying as a social health issue
- implement successful community building techniques into classrooms and physical education environments
- incorporate bullying awareness into health and sport education and activity
- understand how to use healthy active living principles to identify and work with mental health and to engage at-risk students
- promote and support environments that are inclusive, safe, and healthy
- advocate for awareness, a changed social climate within the school and greater community, and the eradication of bullying, harassment and violence
- model appropriate conflict resolution, esteem building, supportive environments, actions and words
- integrate bullying awareness and social justice into the classroom, school, community, and sports and recreation
- understand the impact that bullying and aggressive behaviours have on the overall development and academic achievement of the bully, the bully-victims, and the environment of the school, the greater community, and the household
 - to understand how to approach the issue in a student/client-centred manner that looks at conflict resolution, Restorative Justice, and healthy, active living and sport
